The coconut plantations in Ghana have devastating effects from a phytoplasma, which cause the lethal yellowing disease of coconut. Since 2006, a FSP project funded by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs is interested in this problematic facing Ghana.

In order to draw the assessment on the research worldwide on this disease and plan other new means of research, an international workshop on the lethal yellowing disease of coconut has been held in Accra from 3rd to 6th June, 2008. This workshop had a more global vision than the previous one which was held in Elmina in 1995 and this because the commodity chain of the coconut in Africa and also in the rest of the world would be tackled. The participants would come from Africa, Central America, the Caribbean, South Chorea and Eastern Europe and would represent the research sector as well as the industrial sector or the producers.
